St. Lucia - The Maria Islands TourFrom The Inn, you’ll be taken down the east coast of St Lucia, through banana plantations, towns and villages. A knowledgeable and well-spoken guide will provide you with an insight into the history both of St Lucia and its people, dating back to the first known settlement of St Lucia over 2500 years ago. There’ll be numerous stops en-route for you to see the spectacular scenery of St Lucia. The view from the heights at Moule-a-Chique is one of the most breathtaking sights on St Lucia.
The tour guide will take you on a little hike over the island (nothing too taxing!) and tell you about the flora and fauna of this island, and the care with which the National Trust nurture these Islands. As well as the lizards, there are numerous geckos, and nesting birds include the sooty and bridle terns, the brown noddy and the red-billed tropic bird (between May and August / September when the birds are nesting access to the interior of the island is restricted). After your hike, you’ll have the opportunity to swim and snorkel in the crystal clear waters off the shores of Maria Island. We promise this will be one of the high spots of your holiday; the Nature Reserved status of the Maria Island restricts the water traffic around the island, which makes it perhaps the best spot for snorkelling off St Lucia. After a couple of hours, when you’re exhausted and ready for some delicious local cuisine, you’ll return to the restaurant on the mainland for lunch, either a barbeque or a variety of mouth-watering local dishes. When you’ve eaten your fill and are suitably refreshed, we’ll continue our tour. Returning up the east coast, there’ll be a stop at the Greenfield Inn for a refreshing beverage. You'll be returned to The Inn by around 4:30pm. We’re confident that this day will be one of your warmest memories of St Lucia! Cost per person: US$80.00. St. Lucia - Rain Forest Jungle Tour
They’ll pick you up in an open Land Rover 4 ´ 4 for a drive through Roseau Valley, St. Lucia’s largest banana plantation, passing picturesque country villages along the way. At edge of the rain forest, you’ll leave the road
and drive cross-country, through stunning original rain forest vegetation -
giant ferns, heliconias, bromeliads - to a point where you can view Mount Gimie,
St. Lucia’s highest mountain. Take photos and eat fresh tropical fruits
provided by local farmers. An intriguing 15-minute hike takes you to a secluded
waterfall in a protected nature area. After the walk, they’ll show you La
Sikwi, a restored 18th-century sugar mill. St. Lucia - Hiking and Bird WatchingLocated in the island's central Rain Forest belt, the Millet Trail is home to a wide variety of bird species which can be seen and heard from high up in the canopy. The half-hour drive to the start of the trail will take you through the well know Roseau Valley with its acres of banana fields, Canaries and Sarrot. The walk begins at Tete Chemin in Millet.
A few yards after the start of the trail is a medicine garden which displays various local herbs and their curative uses from common coughs and colds to nerve problems and intestinal ills. The approximately 2-mile loop trail which ascends to more than 1,000 feet above sea level, offers fantastic sights of Piton Flore to the North and the Soufrière mountain range to the West. A number of respoints along the walk also treat you to bird's eye views of the largest and most modern water catchment facility in the Caribbean - the Roseau Dam, over 300 feet deep and holding 700 million gallons of fresh water. During the two hours of walking you will also get numerous opportunities to see some of the island's rarest birds (St. Lucia Orioles, Mockingbirds, Tyrants, Hummingbirds, Bananaquits, etc...) including the world famous Amazona Versicolor (the St. Lucian parrot indigenous to the island). Feeding stations lining the trail encourage the birds to drop in, sometimes only an arm's length away and you can have a closer look. Tour can be arranged through the Forestry Department at 451-1691. St. Lucia - Climbing Gros Piton
Jutting straight from the sea, these twin volcanic cones were once treated as gods by St. Lucia's first settlers, the Amerindians, and since then, their undeniable allure has continued to attract visitors from around the world. For those into hiking and climbing, the vegetation covered slopes of the taller, but less severe, Gros Piton already accommodate an official trail to the summit accessed through the village of Fond Gens Libre and managed jointly by the village and the Forestry Department. The trail is well defined, suitable for those of average fitness, and there are plenty of trained guides ready to assist you along the way. St. Lucia - Come and enjoy our beautiful island!
