Frommer's The Inn On The Bay
Abandoning careers as a lawyer and social worker, respectively, they designed the hotel themselves, modeling its blue roof and veranda-ringed style on the island's plantation-house tradition. Today, the centerpiece of their establishment is an open-air terrace, site of a small pool... Bedrooms, with 10-foot ceilings, are spacious, comfortably furnished, and airy. By conscious design, none is air-conditioned, although each has a ceiling fan and ample windows for cross-ventilation. Some bathrooms are shower only, but each comes with a hair dryer. Although
it was established as recently as 1995, this small-scale inn has already
attracted a healthy percentage of repeat clients. Perched 300 feet above the
waters of Marigot Bay on a site that required massive retaining walls to
buttress, it's the creative statement of Montréal-born Normand Viau and his
wife, Louise Boucher.
Set
90m up on a hillside at the south side of the bay, this pleasant five-room
guesthouse exudes peace, quiet and relaxation. Spacious rooms with fridges
surround the deck and pool, the hosts are extremely knowledgeable about
the island, and the sea breeze wafting up the hill renders a/c unnecessary
while also discouraging the mosquitoes. Continental breakfast is
included.
